An interesting topic that was surrounded by tons of excessive text restating what it just said.
This book is purely a love story with a LOT of tedious dialogue. I was expecting some serious historical fiction and got a simpering romance novel. The characters felt very contrived and were the embodiments of extremes. Their conversations were repetitive and the end was, frankly, a bit hokey. That said, it was a good romance. If I'd gone into it expecting a straight romance novel plus a little Civil War backdrop, I would've been happy and satisfied. But this book stretches on far too long for what it is.
