** spoiler alert ** I really liked the idea of this book, but I didn't find the writing very compelling and I was mostly disgusted by the heroine in the story. I couldn't believe how much time she wasted waiting for him and all the turmoil she caused her family and friends. I really felt like she was the bad guy in the story, and not Jake. He's just an ass and she should have never wasted time on him to begin with, but she was the one that kept the drama alive. I just couldn't really get into this story. I think if it had more comedy... if it was written by Sophie Kinsella or Helen Fielding... it could have been a really good book.
All of the names and places got a little confusing, and I think a list of characters and their relationships to each other would have helped. But overall a great read about early America's religious and cultural history.
Brain candy, yes, but the series gets better with each book. For fans of paranormal or the Sookie Stackhouse series.
kind of cheesey. I think this lady was the type of person that I avoided when I traveled to exactly where she did - Italy, India, and Bali. Made me feel old to be 31! Do not read it unless you want to feel old and cheesey!
So Dan Brown is not the most beautiful writer, but he certainly chose an interesting subject, and I thought it was a good, exciting read
