The audio book narrator gives the story a light feel which is deceptive. There is something very dark about the world of Eli Monpress even if he has a cavalier attitude about it. There are a few supporting characters that have my attention and I want to know more about them. I absolutely love the magical system. I will continue the series as I am not sure if this was a weak series launch. I am hopeful the minor irks I had with this book does not plague the remaining books in the series.
