Classic Vonnegut. I remember reading the first time and thinking that it was a sci-fi book. Now I look back on it and realize how it is just the story of Billy Prigrim who trys his dardnest to escape the brutalitity of war. Sure, his fantasies are out there, but they never happened. These are just PTSD flashbacks or whathaveyou. I love Vonnegut's use of time. Brilliant read.
Whenever I recommend this book, people are always hesitant to read it - I admit, the subject matter of a boy who goes on a deadly rampage at his school doesn't sound pleasant. But that is really such a small part of the book. It is really about Kevin's mother, about motherhood in general and how not every woman is always overjoyed at the prospect of pregnancy and motherhood, how not every child is perfectly adorable and loveable, and about how we all do the best we can. Everyone I know who has actually read the book has felt the same way I did, that it is amazing. It is a beautifully written book that will stay with you for a long time.
