I don't know if I am just apocalypse-d out, if zombies are overplayed at this point, or if this book was just one of those books that's a love/hate kind of thing. This book definitely got rave reviews from some of my most reliable sources (Forever Young Adult girls! Emily Two Names! The Internet in General!), but, ultimately, it fell flat for me. Perhaps it was the abrupt break in the middle of the book that turned me off? The (view spoiler) The cliffhanger ending? This book did have some pluses, though. It was deliciously gruesome, and, at times, the look at humanity's darker side seemed reminiscent of Stephen King's best books. But, perhaps because I have read so much Stephen King, I definitely found most of the "twists" to be pretty easy to see coming. I wouldn't hesitate to give this book to anyone who was looking for a snappy horror title, but I have an inkling that the conclusion of this trilogy might end up at the dusty bottom of my TBR pile.
