Curiously detached tale of a country girl sold by her father into a city world and her life becoming a famous geisha. Interesting information about her education and the details of geisha life, but somehow I never "bonded" with the character. It was worth reading for the story, though.

I had to read this in middle school, and I hated it. As an adult, it really upset me. This is a great book.

Not nearly as good as the Time Traveler's Wife.

** spoiler alert ** A bit sad and a bit wonderful too. Griff as the one no one really respects, yet they all keep asking him to be their wedding planner (even if most of them laugh behind his back) His relationship with Hamar, going from best friend, to practically enemies was something I would have loved to read more about, but we can't have everything. Sweet story, even if I wanted to kill both M sisters at times. Talking about drama queens *rolls eyes*
