This was my first Rushdie, and I wanted to love this book soooo badly. Unfortunately, a month after finishing, all I can recall is how done with the whole mess the author seemed, with 150 pages still to go. The story was incredibly intelligent and beautifully written, but there are only so many sweeping knees/nose/nose/knees summaries I can take before I start to get annoyed. If I was aiming for "annoyed" while reading fiction, I'd just read Kinky Friedman all the time.
