HST is a phenomenal writer, if sometimes a little hard to follow. This book is less a reporting of the facts of the '72 campaign than it is HST's experience of that campaign. For many authors the two may not be that difference, but in HST's case they are wildly different. I really enjoyed it, though watching yet another Democrat fall victim to many of the classic Democratic missteps was at times a little hard... I was also interested to see how many of the names I recognize from contemporary politics. Once you get in the business, it appears, you're in it for the long haul.
