I started out being really into this book. The environment, details, dragons, girl hiding as a boy etc. But then about half way through, things got stupid. I cannot STAND when authors put subpar obstacles in their character's way, especially when it is obvious how to either solve it or how it will be resolved. Why would I read a book that I know the outcome of? I want to be surprised, taken on a journey that I DON'T know the end to. We all knew that Eona needed to use her moon energy as her power, not her sun. And to stop taking that drug. This is my issue: if I can figure out what is going to happen or how it needs to be solved, I want the character to also catch on. I like to read about intellectual and smart characters who are one step ahead of the game. Not slow moving, insecure characters who take forever to get over their hang ups (or at least hang ups that the whole entire story depends on). Granted, there is definitely a time for having an issue the character needs time to deal with, but you have to write it in a way that the character is actually growing towards it. This just felt like a time waster, filling pages until the end when the author could say "Surprise! This is what it is all about and I bet none of you guessed it.".... not. Sorry, I'm ranting. So, yes, the beginning was great and engaging, 4 stars, the end half, 2 star if that. But I will rate this in the positive manner.
