Spoiler Gypsy’s real life had little to do with the play or movie. Gypsy was a bisexual bitch but you had to forgive her because she had one very, very hard and psychotic mother who actually committed a murder pursuing her daughters’ careers. The book isn’t only about Gypsy Rose Lee, and the horror story of how she became Gypsy Rose Lee, but also a keen look into the nation at that time. It was a place and time inhabited by gangsters & showgirls in the Prohibition era. Not a great book but I did learn about how Mayor LaGuardia and the Catholic Church put an end to Burlesque.
